Speedball

Speedball combines a lot of different skills, ie. passing, kicking, dribbling, air dribbling, scoring, playing man to man and zone type defenses. We had a lot of fun playing speedball in the fall!!

FITNESS TESTING

In the first few weeks of the school year we did our "pre-test" fitness testing. The idea is to see where each individual scores compared to a national standard in the areas of cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, core strength, upper body strength, and trunk strength and flexibility. We also test haumana's blood pressure and take their height and weight. Mid-way through the year and again at the end of the year, we'll see if we have improvement in the areas of weakness.

We also spent some time learning about the importance of a DYNAMIC WARM-UP. What it is and how to effectively warm-up. Here's some photographic evidence of us warming up all our major muscles and joints, working from a low to higher intensity, getting the blood warm and the heart rate up enough to break a sweat!

Highlights of First Semester!

The 2011-12 school year began with creating some expectations and norms with our FULL VALUE CONTRACT. The Full Value Contract helps create an environment where students feel safe enough to take risks. The FVC serves as a structure for creating behavioral norms and expectations that everyone in the class agrees to follow. This helps to establish an atmosphere of caring, of feeling connected and of feeling valued. It is part of the Project Adventure curriculum that we will visit throughout the school year.
